A Coord Based on a Dessert

Hey guys! Another Lolita Blog Carnival topic this week- come up with a coord based on a dessert! Instead of going to Polyvore or my closet I decided to get more creative with it and design an original outfit from head to toe.
Keeping the summer season in mind I chose Neapolitan ice cream for my dessert!

lolita, fashion, harajuku, classic, neapolitan, dessert, kawaii

The color scheme of Neapolitan ice cream has always been a favorite of mine and was my biggest inspiration. I tried to capture the shape of perfectly scooped ice cream in the bell shaped skirt and puffy sleeves. The beret was meant to resemble a dollop of whipped cream! I originally intended this to be more classic but it took a dive into sweet instead- whoops!
Would you wear something like this? Have a sugar-sweet day and thanks for reading!

Tips For Wearing Lolita in the Summer

In some areas of the world it’s about to get really hot- which can be a sweaty nightmare in layers! With a few adjustments here and there you are on your way to a summer friendly coord. Here are some do’s and don’ts to beat the heat Lolita-style:

Instead of bulky wigs:
Wear hair extensions! This will give you a fuller hair effect without the benefit of a winter hat.

Instead of a tight fitting blouse:
Wear a blouse that’s breathable! Look for ones that won’t bunch up, are made of light fabric, and don’t have too many piled on details. Chiffon is really in this year and follows all those rules- plus it looks beautiful in any coordinate!
Or just skip the blouse altogether! I find this especially cute under halter top JSKs. If you’re too worried about it being “against the rules” then covering your shoulders up with a light shawl or cardigan should do the trick!

Instead of a onepiece:
Wear a JSK or skirt! Lolita dresses are typically made of thick fabric so the less you need to wear of it the better.

Instead of over-the-knee socks:
Wear ankle socks! You don’t want the hassle of holding up heavy socks when the sun it beaming at you!

Instead of having your hair down:
Try a cute up-do! Buns are popular in lolita and work in any style- plus you won’t have to worry about your hair flying into your lip gloss when a cool breeze comes around. Tying your hair up will be a weight off your shoulders!

Instead of heavy porcelain doll makeup:
Try a lighter look with tinted moisturizer (SPF is a big plus!), glossy lips, and waterproof eye makeup.

Instead of dark colors:
Go for whites! We all know dark colors attract heat while light ones reflect rays. As a side note I personally prefer not to have my prints bleached by the sun but that may be a bit protective.

Instead of mary janes:
Wear matching sandals! While this is more on the casual side, sandals are way more appropriate than other lolita footwear for beach meet ups.

Instead of going out empty-handed:
Bring a parasol! They were made to be a cute way to handle the rays.
What are you excited for this summer? Have a sugar-sweet day and thanks for reading!

How to keep your Lolita image at the beach/pool!

For this week’s topic I’ll be diving into how you can “lolify” a trip to the beach/pool! Just because your precious frills can’t touch the sandy beach or chlorinated pools doesn’t mean you have to leave your Lolita image at home- so here are a few ideas to help put the fashion back in the water:

Wear your frilly best!

Unfortunately it’s not too often that brands like Baby the Stars Shine Bright or Metamorphose put out swimwear, but here are some pieces that will work for any style and *budget!

Sweet Style Swimwear

Pastels, ruffles, bows, scallops, and cute prints are the way to go for sweet swimwear!

Classic Style Swimwear

Florals, crochet, scrolls, and earth-tones bring a classic touch to the scene.

Gothic Style Swimwear

Dark colors, delicate trims, and mysterious florals bring out your goth even in the sun!
Cover your swimwear with a light matching dress and you’re all set to soak in some rays. Stores that frequently stock cute swimwear are:

Accessorize your look
Wearing lots of jewelry will inevitably lead to lots of sand in intricate places, but there are other ways to accessorize your ensemble without bringing home grainy souvenirs!

  • Bring along a parasol to shade you from the sun
  • Deco a pair of sunglasses for a sugar sweet look
  • Paint your toes and nails to match your look
  • A little bit of waterproof eyeliner/mascara can make your dolly eyes stand out
  • Add bows to your sandals for a feminine touch
  • Bring a cute purse to hold reading material, sunscreen, and yummies

Customize your beach towel
What trip to the beach doesn’t include a towel for drying off or saving your butt from sand? Buy a bare towel and add a few of the following to customize it!

  • Lace (doesn’t have to be the expensive stuff!)
  • Pom trim
  • Beads
  • Bleach pens
  • Fabric paint (using stencils or tape to block off designs)
  • Ribbon

 Keep hydrated and full!
Swimming can take a lot out of a person so it’s important to feed your thirst and your tummy. These recipes are as elegant as they are refreshing:
